Yes, the US and China need to talk — just as the Philippines and China do. But the mistake made in the past was doing so at the expense of the alliance.
The current administration’s economic engagement with the US is trending toward failure. However, whoever will follow in 2028 should refrain (as much as possible) from framing PH–US–China relations in a lose–lose dynamic.
